Once I've finished this theme and have it up for sale I will concentrate on finishing my Downloads Manager. For those that aren't already viewing it, you can use the quick theme menu at the bottom of the page to select it. As it is currently in beta, I would appreciate all of the comments and constructive criticism I can get!
Once I am satisfied that people like the theme enough, and that I've smoothed out all of the wrinkles, I plan on selling this theme (most likely on ShopMyBB).

I've mostly been working on themes to sell (I'm getting much better at designing them) and that game I mentioned.
I've been working a bunch on the new Downloads Manager, and would like to announce it's around 35% finished. That doesn't sound like a lot but considering I started this incarnation this month it's coming along quickly. I've restructured the whole thing, so unfortunately there's no way to upgrade from the 1.x series at the moment. I've moved uploading files out of the Admin CP and given categories (and subcategories) permission sets of viewing, downloading and uploading on a per-usergroup basis. I also plan on giving users the ability to rate downloads. The goal is to get this thing to act as though it were core software from the users', admins', and even developers' points of view.

Update: I'm putting this project on a short hold since I'm away from the design documents right now and I know if I start working on it now I'll end up doing something stupid and have to start that part over from scratch. Maybe late on Oct. 1st I can start it up again; it depends on family plans.

Update 2: Nope, gotta wait until next week. Oh well, I've got other projects I need to work on, so this will give me a chance to get some stuff done on those.

I've got a basic design for the new downloads manager down on paper, and have finally begun coding. I'm hoping I've got a good design so I don't have to start over again (this is actually the 3rd time I've started 2.0 ) or end up with a PITA to manage like with 1.x did.

I've designed it to behave very similar to the core MyBB functionality, including layout (to an extent) and abilities. I need to update the feature list since I've made a couple of changes, but mostly to add features.

I've started coding today, getting some of the basics like adding the link to the menu on activation (no more manually adding it like before!), having the page fail gracefully when the plugin is deactivated, and getting some of the base templates coded.

I think next on my list is getting the initial database tables created and filled, and create a table update function.

One key thing I've got in mind when programming this is expandability, not only for my self in the "core" software, but also other users with their own plugins (huh, imagine that, plugins for plugins ) such as maybe a file type icon plugin, or a marketplace points addon that will subtract points on download or something. Once I'm done with the 2.0 release I'll probably end up creating a page with some kind of hook list (and API if deemed necessary) for other developers so they don't have to dive through my source like we do with MyBB right now .

I'm rewriting the Downloads Manager plugin from scratch. As a result, I am taking this opportunity to reset the feature list.

These are the features guaranteed to get into the 2.0 feature list:

Categories

Admin-controlled permission to upload, download and view on a per-category basis

And here are the features I'd like to implement, if not in 2.0 then soon after:

Subcategories (with permission inheritance, of course)

File size not limited by PHP's POST limit.

I would like to state that due to the complete rewrite, this plugin won't be compatible with 1.x's info, so it won't be able to upgrade. I admit this is mostly due to me being a lazy bastard and not writing the upgrade functionality. Sorry

Well, I bit the bullet and wiped the old forum and CMS. My reasoning for this is that previously I had tried to build the whole site as though it were bigger than it really was. As a result, people felt like there was nothing here and no reason to remain.

I am hoping that by redoing the website I can attract more users and a better, more active community. I can start this by making an important announcement: I am picking up the Downloads Manager plugin again. This will be a complete rewrite. I've learned much since I last worked on this plugin, and I'm hoping I can put this new knowledge to use in developing a more efficient and easier to maintain and extend plugin.

I will be working on this project in sync with a couple of others not related to MyBB, so development might not be the fastest at first, but I've already trimmed down on the number of projects I'm working on and have a bit more free time now to work on this.

I am also planning on taking suggestions for other plugins to work on once I've gotten some of my current projects finished. Remember, though, that they are simply suggestions and I might not create one for any number of reasons.

Thank you for visiting my new site, and I hope you enjoy your stay!
